Finding new and unique gift ideas during the Holidays is always a challenge. So, we turned to some SEAWNY board members, members and partners for their ideas on local businesses that always come through this time of year!

My Go-To Small Business: Clayton's Toy Store

During the Holidays, I am always looking for that special gift for my daughters, that one gift that will the gift they will enjoy playing with more than all the rest and is more than just a toy. Something that will provide a hands on experience for them and give hours of entertainment for months and years to come. It's the kind of give you won't find at the big box stores, so Clayton's Toy Store is my go to place.  It's not just the toys that make Clayton's great the staff is always willing to provide me with suggestions and guidance to help me find that perfect gift.

My Go-To Small Business(es): Roswell Park Alliance Foundation & Platter's Chocolates

With only a couple of years in, my gift budget is small, but I want to make a big impact to show appreciation for all of my clients.  I've found two organizations that help me accomplish these goals. I've always ordered my greeting cards from the Paint Box Project. I appreciate the many designs to choose from, all done by patients at Roswell, as well as the ability to customize my company greeting with words of appreciation and the added bonus of giving back. Pairing these cards with the finest chocolate in Buffalo from a small business with an amazing story of their own - Platter's Chocolates. With advance orders you can have your logo done in chocolate - how sweet is that?!

My Go-To Small Business: Black Monarchy

I was shopping with Mayor Byron Brown on Small Business Saturday this year, and did quite a bit of shopping at a great shop called Black Monarchy, located at 527 West Utica in the Five Points neighborhood. The business, owned by Phylicia Dove, is a wonderful boutique that sells clothing, skin care products and accessories from around the world. I found some great gifts for family members, and, of course, myself! The prices are very reasonable, and it was great to chat with Phylicia while there. She was a Pitch Business Competition winner, and took home not only the grand prize but the People's Choice Award as well. Here's a great article on Phylicia's business from Buffalo Rising(photo courtesy of Buffalo Rising)

My Go-To Small Business: The Village Bake Shoppe

I love to cook, but baking has never been my forte - which is why I turn to The Village Bake Shoppe, located in the heart of Lewiston NY.  Around the holidays so many of us are entertaining friends and family who deserve fresh ingredients and original recipes. Since 1993, The Village Bake Shoppe has been a go-to for the best 'from scratch' desserts. Corporate gift options are a specialty of theirs, including cookie bar boxes, gift baskets, cookie platters and more. The Village Bake Shoppe even ships via Fedex. Looking to 'wow' guests or say thank you to a client? Call Mike or Lindsay Fiore and order the Mile High Apple Pie, you wont be disappointed.

My Go-To Small Business: Arrowhead Spring Vineyards, Lockport, NY

I enjoy giving wine as a corporate gift throughout the Holidays, because it's always appreciated, everyone has a use for it, and you don't have a hit-or-miss issue with what people may or may not like. But it has to be good wine, or else what are you telling your clients? Fortunately, there are a lot of great wineries throughout the region, but my go-to for gifts is Arrowhead Spring Vineyards. The wine is outstanding, I'm pleased to give it, and if I get there at the right time, I can spend a half-hour talking with Duncan or Robin Ross about their exciting expansion. Hint: Get your hands on a bottle of the Meritage Reserve.

We all want shopping to be fun and we want to buy gifts that show others how much we appreciate them. You can easily accomplish this at the just opened "Old Chapel Antique & Artisan Market" at 172 Robinson Street in North Tonawanda. The former Ascension Church has been transformed into 6,500 square foot showcase for antiques, collectables, and one of a kind items made by local artists. You'll find nearly 50 vendors as well as homemade fudge, specialty kettle corn, and Amish foods. Be sure to include the Old Chapel in your shopping plans and happy holidays to you all. Here's a recent article about the Market from the Niagara Gazette.

My Go-To Small Business: Eckl's Restaurant

The holidays are a time to spend with family and friends. There is one restaurant where I feel an extra special sense of friendship and family and that's at Eckl's Restaurant in Orchard Park.  Eckl's Restaurant is a long-standing Southtowns dining tradition that dates back more than 80 years. Although I've only considered myself a "regular" for just over a year, the warm and cozy feeling of this restaurant is delightful and infectious thanks to staff, management and the customers that call it home. What also makes it warm and cozy is the fantastic traditional food in which they serve. Long known for its Beef on Weck sandwich, which is a must try, Eckl's Restaurant produces some great daily soups in addition to their famous Lobster Bisque and French Onion that are served every day.  If you're looking for an easy gift for a southtowns based friend, family member of colleague, a gift certificate to Eckl's Restaurant will go a long way.

My Go-To Small Business: Stuffed Chocolate

When I was introduced to Stuffed Chocolate, it was a small business running out of a Williamsville basement. I stopped in for a tour and liked them so much, I actually gave them a mailing list to deliver directly to my clients. That was back in 2002. By this time last year, Stuffed Chocolate had grown to feature more than 450 gourmet products, and sold to another great local company, D'Avolio Oils, Vinegars and More, getting their outstanding chocolate into even more people's hands. I appreciate their tremendous customer service and accessibility, and wonderful product, and continue to make Stuffed Chocolate a go-to resource this time of year.
